Music Monday!!!

Students and parents,

I believe that music and the arts are an extremely important part of our lives. Listening and creating music gives us the opportunity to express ourselves in different ways and allows us to always have fun. As we have noticed, we are now only able to attend music class once a week. Next year, we may not even have the opportunity to have a music class at all. The reason I am telling you all this is because there is something that we can do as a class to let others know just how important music is to us. If you click here and scroll down to watch the video, you will be taken to a website that will show you what we will be doing with our creative music minds!

From the first Monday of every May, students, teachers and parents, and anyone who loves music, join together at the same time right across the country to fill the sky with melody.

**Parents** there is no expectation for this. I feel that this is something fun for the students' to take part in that will really highlight the importance of music. Please feel free to join us every Monday in May so you too can help us fill the sky with melody!

Building structures!!!

Good afternoon!
Since we are still focusing on the topic of Geometry and Spatial Sense I wanted to give you a fun activity to do at home on the Internet. We have not done this in class yet, but this website will allow you to build structures using two-dimensional shapes. Some of the things that you may build are cats, arrows, and even bunny rabbits! If you are having a hard time figuring out which shapes go where to build that specific object, press the button that says "solution". This will show you exactly which shapes to use in order to have a finished product. I'd really like you to try your best and when you are finished playing write down all of the objects that you were able to create, as well as the ones that you had difficulty with. Bring this to class tomorrow so that we can work together to figure out those difficult objects!

Parents, the expectation for this lesson is for the student's to compose and decompose two-dimensional shapes (Example: using polygons to show if they can compose a rectangle from two triangles of different sizes).

Have fun!!!!
Ms. L :)

Grade 2's and parents,

This week in math we are going to be focusing on the topic of Geometry and Spatial Sense. I really enjoyed teaching you all about different polygons and thought that it would be a great idea if I found some fun games on the internet that had to do with this topic.

If you click here you will be able to play a game where you will identify some of the shapes we learned about in class. I have also found another exciting website that allows you to help someone finish their invention by handing him the right shape!!! To play the 'shape lab game' click here.

Enjoy!!!

Ms. Lazarovic

Parents, the expectation for this lesson is for the children to identify and describe various polygons (i.e., triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, octagons) and sort and classify them by their geometric properties (i.e., number of sides or number of vertices).

Your help is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Welcome back!

Welcome back boys and girls!

I hope that you had a wonderful long weekend and that you enjoyed every bit of the beautiful weather that we had! Since we are back to school tomorrow, I wanted you to have a look at a cool website that deals with the science topic that we are focusing on, properties of liquids and solids. If you click here you will be able to learn a little bit more about this topic.
**Instructions** (Parents, please help your child if he/she is having difficulty with searching on the website. It is greatly appreciated!!!)
When you get to the website, please go to the section that says "gases, liquids and solids". Click on the button that says "read", and then read both sections on liquids and solids. When reading about both I want you to concentrate on how liquids take the shape of the container they are in, and how change of temperature may change a solid. We will be learning more about this in class tomorrow!!
If you have some free time, there are also fun and exciting games on the website where you will be the scientist who changes liquids into solids, and solids into liquids!

Parents, the expectation for this lesson is for the children to describe the characteristics of liquid water ( e.g., it takes the shape of the container it is in) and solid water (e.g. ice floats), and identify the conditions that cause changes from one to the other (e.g., water turns to ice when the temperature goes below zero; ice turns to water when heated).

Can't wait to see you all in class tomorrow!
Ms. Lazarovic :)
