Music Monday!!!

Students and parents,

I believe that music and the arts are an extremely important part of our lives. Listening and creating music gives us the opportunity to express ourselves in different ways and allows us to always have fun. As we have noticed, we are now only able to attend music class once a week. Next year, we may not even have the opportunity to have a music class at all. The reason I am telling you all this is because there is something that we can do as a class to let others know just how important music is to us. If you click here and scroll down to watch the video, you will be taken to a website that will show you what we will be doing with our creative music minds!

From the first Monday of every May, students, teachers and parents, and anyone who loves music, join together at the same time right across the country to fill the sky with melody.

**Parents** there is no expectation for this. I feel that this is something fun for the students' to take part in that will really highlight the importance of music. Please feel free to join us every Monday in May so you too can help us fill the sky with melody!

Building structures!!!

Good afternoon!
Since we are still focusing on the topic of Geometry and Spatial Sense I wanted to give you a fun activity to do at home on the Internet. We have not done this in class yet, but this website will allow you to build structures using two-dimensional shapes. Some of the things that you may build are cats, arrows, and even bunny rabbits! If you are having a hard time figuring out which shapes go where to build that specific object, press the button that says "solution". This will show you exactly which shapes to use in order to have a finished product. I'd really like you to try your best and when you are finished playing write down all of the objects that you were able to create, as well as the ones that you had difficulty with. Bring this to class tomorrow so that we can work together to figure out those difficult objects!

Parents, the expectation for this lesson is for the student's to compose and decompose two-dimensional shapes (Example: using polygons to show if they can compose a rectangle from two triangles of different sizes).

Have fun!!!!
Ms. L :)

Grade 2's and parents,

This week in math we are going to be focusing on the topic of Geometry and Spatial Sense. I really enjoyed teaching you all about different polygons and thought that it would be a great idea if I found some fun games on the internet that had to do with this topic.

If you click here you will be able to play a game where you will identify some of the shapes we learned about in class. I have also found another exciting website that allows you to help someone finish their invention by handing him the right shape!!! To play the 'shape lab game' click here.

Enjoy!!!

Ms. Lazarovic

Parents, the expectation for this lesson is for the children to identify and describe various polygons (i.e., triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, octagons) and sort and classify them by their geometric properties (i.e., number of sides or number of vertices).

Your help is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Welcome back!

Welcome back boys and girls!

I hope that you had a wonderful long weekend and that you enjoyed every bit of the beautiful weather that we had! Since we are back to school tomorrow, I wanted you to have a look at a cool website that deals with the science topic that we are focusing on, properties of liquids and solids. If you click here you will be able to learn a little bit more about this topic.
**Instructions** (Parents, please help your child if he/she is having difficulty with searching on the website. It is greatly appreciated!!!)
When you get to the website, please go to the section that says "gases, liquids and solids". Click on the button that says "read", and then read both sections on liquids and solids. When reading about both I want you to concentrate on how liquids take the shape of the container they are in, and how change of temperature may change a solid. We will be learning more about this in class tomorrow!!
If you have some free time, there are also fun and exciting games on the website where you will be the scientist who changes liquids into solids, and solids into liquids!

Parents, the expectation for this lesson is for the children to describe the characteristics of liquid water ( e.g., it takes the shape of the container it is in) and solid water (e.g. ice floats), and identify the conditions that cause changes from one to the other (e.g., water turns to ice when the temperature goes below zero; ice turns to water when heated).

Can't wait to see you all in class tomorrow!
Ms. Lazarovic :)

Science is fun!!

Grade 2's,

in science class today we focused on the properties of liquids and solids. I really enjoyed teaching you the introductory lesson but felt that I could give you an even better example of this topic through our classroom blog. This website, scholastic, will give you a greater idea of what a liquid and solid is and how both these states are able to change in different ways. Please click on the link that I have provided above and watch the video on solids and liquids. In addition to the video, there is a song that you may listen to that discusses these properties as well!!
**ALWAYS REMEMBER, SCIENCE IS FUN**

Parents, the expectation for this lesson is for the children to identify conditions in which the states of liquids and solids remain constant (e.g. solids remain solid when broken; liquids remain liquid when poured) and conditions that can cause their states to change (e.g., liquids may freeze when the temperature drops; solids may melt when heated).

Enjoy,

Ms. Lazarovic :)

Long weekend :)

Students,

I hope you have all been enjoying visiting our classroom blog! After the March break, we have had a busy few weeks at school and now it's time to once again relax and spend some quality time with our families over this long weekend. As you can see, a new addition to our classroom blog are some fun educational links for you to explore over this short break. You can find these links on the right hand side where it says 'Fun educational links for students'. I hope you enjoy these exciting websites as much as I do! Have a wonderful weekend and happy Passover and Easter to all of you who are celebrating!

Welcome to Ms. L's interactive space!

Dear parents and grade 2 students,

Welcome to our interactive space! Here we will be able to get further familiarized with the new ways of technology and we will be able to share important ideas with each other. If you are a little bit nervous about using our classroom blog, I know how you feel!!! I am a little bit nervous too. We will all work together as a team to make sure that everyone feels comfortable and that we all understand how the interactive space works!
This blog gives me the opportunity to post educational sites, links or activities that I believe we may all find interesting and exciting.
Parents, on the right hand side underneath the "EDUCATIONAL LINKS FOR PARENTS" section you will find 5 links that can assist you with your child's homework as well as other educational aspects that you may find difficulty in dealing with.
Students, I will be sure to post some fascinating and educational links for you as well in the following weeks to come.
If anyone would like to add a suggestion or comment about our classroom blog, please feel free to do so. I too am an ongoing learner and believe that there is always room for improvement!
I am extremely excited about our interactive space and hope that you will enjoy it as much as I will! Please make sure to visit weekly as I will be updating the blog with new ideas that will help us with our learning!!!!
Sincerely,
Ms. L
